The Lompoc Sanitary Landfill is located at the south end of Avalon Street in Lompoc, California  The landfill has been in operation since 1961.  Anaerobic decomposition of the waste in the landfill generates landfill gas, which is primarily a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide.
