Clean Air Grants for Agricultural Engines

The 2024 Clean Air Grants Program’s application window opens Monday, July 29, 2024, and closes Friday, September 6, 2024. Applications submitted prior to July 29, 2024, or after September 06, 2024, will not be accepted.

2024 Clean Air Grants for Agricultural Stationary Diesel Engine Repower

Replace your diesel powered stationary agricultural engine to help reduce air pollution. Successful projects will be eligible to receive a grant within a range from $10,000 to $250,000.

  • Priority will be given to projects located within low-income and disadvantaged communities, as defined by this map: https://webmaps.arb.ca.gov/PriorityPopulations/.
  • Emission reductions from the project must be surplus to any rule or regulation.
  • The District has discretion on how grants funds are distributed.

Project Requirements:

  • Replacement equipment shall be for one (1) new electric motor. New Tier 4 Final diesel motor replacements will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 
  • Applications are limited to one (1) grant project per Company, LLC, Taxpayer ID, etc. with final determination at the District’s discretion.
  • Must be a diesel-powered engine that is greater than or equal to 25 horsepower with an operational hour meter.
  • Engine must be operational, and verified as such by the District at a pre-inspection, and in-service at the time of application. 
  • During the last 24 months, the engine must have operated 100% of the time in Santa Barbara County. Newly funded projects must also operate 100% of the time in Santa Barbara County.
  • During the last 24 months, the existing engine must have been in compliance with the District’s Agricultural Engine Registration program.
  • Applicants may apply for partial funding of associated infrastructure under the District’s Infrastructure Program, if proposed Ag Pump is electric.

How to Apply:

  1. Determine your agricultural engine’s eligibility for this program. To be eligible for funds, projects must meet the criteria located in CARB’s most recent Carl Moyer Guidelines, Chapter 5, FARMER Guidelines, and Community Air Projection Project Guidelines.
  2. Gather the required information regarding the existing agricultural engine.
  3. Apply for grant funds in person, by mail, or email.
